Review: Beauty Bar

Nails and Martinis at the Beauty Bar are like chocolate and cigarettes at a Feist concert. No one would think to ever put these two ageless beauties together, but it works.

This happy hour at Beauty Bar is complete self-indulgence for women who want to look like Betty Page, but remain in their own skin. Unfortunately, you cannot show up to the Beauty Bar in El Cajon expecting service. You do have to make an appointment and make nice to the woman who will be catering to every nail polish need.

The Beauty Bar isn’t about perfect nails, it’s about the experience. Tired of going to the salon down the street and reading the same article in U.S. Magazine? This is where the Beauty Bar steps in and creates an atmosphere of intense consummation. The comfort of chairs next to the bar means easy access to martinis, and mirrors lined up at every corner makes communication between the bartender and the manicurist one hundred percent effective.

Not only will you be astounded with the music, but the sense that everyone in the room is an artist. Having your nails painted while sipping on a martini may sound difficult, but with dryers and a free-hand half the time, it can most certainly be done.

What is special about the Beauty Bar in San Diego is that manicurists are working artists. Any other major city might be musing over their own working-politics, but San Diego has a loyal fan base when it comes to art, and nail painting is a mark of science and beauty.
