Review: Centro-Matic

Centro-Matic is basically Will Johnson tokin’ a little Neil Young number. This indie-rocker started as a singer-songwriter and, after capturing the gleeful hearts of Texans, added a full-time drummer, cellist/violinist, and a bassist to become a full-fledged rock outfit. The band presented a crunchy country backup his Johnson’s ragged tonality and rock poetry. It’s a little bit Guided by Voices wobble, and a little bit of commercial bait & tackle for pop/rock fishin’. For fans of Superchunk and Archers of Loaf.
